In this lesson the following terminology will be covered: airport terminology, aircraft terminology and the seating configuration in an aircraft. The following terms will be specifically looked at. Airport terminology : Airport, airside, landside, terminal, gate, speed check-in kiosks, check-in counter, boarding, boarding pass, security control points, baggage claim area and carousel. Check-in procedures and boarding procedures. The baggage allowed on domestic flights. The safety procedures before take-off. Aircraft terminology: Cockpit, aisle, entertainment, tray tables, galley, overhead storage bins, oxygen masks, cargo hold and fuselage. Seating configuration in an aircraft: this will depend on the type of aircraft used by the airlines. Wide-body aircraft and narrow-body aircraft, travel class sections: business class and economy class. How to locate your seat in an aircraft. The emergency exit, aisle seats and window seats. The focus of the study is on the type of aircraft used by airlines operating in South Africa.
