This week we will focus on how to construct and identify arguments. This is a skill that is useful in all four of the exams. By the end of the week, you should be able identify the point an author is making and assess the validity of their evidence and explanation, as well as to construct your own arguments. You will use these skills to answer comprehension questions (dealt with in more detail in Week 10), to write literary essays (the focus of Week 11), to write discursive and argumentative essays (the focus of Week 4) and to deliver persuasive or motivational orals (the focus of Week 8 and Week 16). The skills taught in this week will help you to prepare for SBA Task 1 (Listening comprehension).
